Bagpipes, Quickbooks, Nursing, Thermal Heating and Dancing at Sullivan County BOCES

Bagpipes:

On February 27th, you can fulfill your dream of learning how to play the bagpipe. This course is just one of the many new courses being offered through the Adult and Continuing Education Program at Sullivan BOCES.

Classes will run on Wednesdays from February 27th through April 16th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the St. John Street Education Center in Monticello. For just $152, you too can learn the basic techniques of playing a bagpiping – including appropriate scales and actual tunes. Students are responsible for the purchase of their practice chanter.

Nursing:

The Adult and Continuing Education Program at BOCES is offering an evening certification program to become a Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA). Classes are held at the St. John Street Education Center on Mondays and Wednesday from February 22nd through June 1st, from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm (a few Saturday classes will be scheduled).

This 130-hour course meets the requirements for the New York State Nurse’s Assistant Certification. Individuals will learn the skills necessary to obtain employment in a hospital, nursing home, residential health care facility, and/or home-care agency. The course includes 30 hours clinical experience in an area health care facility. Upon completion of this course and passing the NYS clinical and written tests, the student will be eligible for Nurse’s Assistant
Certification.

The fee for the class is $1,680.00, which includes registration, textbooks, workbooks, uniform, name tag, blood work and physical exam. Students will be responsible for two clinical test fees which total approximately $115.

Quickbooks:

The Adult and Continuing Education Program at Sullivan BOCES is offering an Introduction to QuickBooks Course. Classes are being held from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the St. John Street Education Center on Wednesdays starting on February 22nd through April 4th. The fee for the class is $199.00

Learn the fundamentals of managing your business’ finances through the use of QuickBooks. This course will move you through the setup process through the start-up phase.

Dancing:

The Adult and Continuing Education Program at BOCES has extended the enrollment window for its Swing Dance Class. If you are interested in learning how to Swing Dance the new class will start on February 21st.

Classes will be held at the St. John Street Education Center on Tuesdays, from February 21st through March 27th from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The fee for the class is $60.00 per person or $100.00 per couple.

You never know! You may end up on Dancing with the Stars or use your new dance steps to marvel other guests at a party or wedding. You can even use the class as exercise to stay in shape. Either way, come join the fun and learn the gaits and moves of Swing Dancing. No experience or dance partner needed.

A second set of sessions will begin on Tuesday, April 3rd through May 8th from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The fee for the class is $60.00 per person or $100.00 per couple.

Thermal Heating:

On February 24th, the Adult and Continuing Education Program at Sullivan BOCES is offering a course in Solar Thermal Basics. Classes will be held from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm at the St. John Street Education Center, in Monticello.

Thanks to a NYSERDA grant, this course is being offered for only $100.00. Classes will run on Fridays from February 24th through March 26th.

This course is ideal for individuals who want to understand how the solar thermal system works and how they can help save fuel costs.
