British soul singer Joe Cocker parlayed Ray Charles-type vocals and an eccentric stage presence into a string of late-’60s hits, suffered in the mid-’70s, and went from tragic figure to well-respected interpreter in the ’80s and ’90s. His gritty, powerful voice remains one of the most distinctive in rock & roll today.

Cocker entered the big time with a groundbreaking rearrangement of “With a Little Help from My Friends,” a Beatles cover, from the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album, featuring lead guitar from Jimmy Page. His explosive performance of the song at Woodstock in 1969 was a festival highlight.

After more than 40 years in the music business, Joe Cocker is still one of the most successful and popular artists worldwide. Many of his 21 studio albums and 4 live albums have achieved multiplatinum status around the world. Some of his greatest hits include “Feelin’ Alright,” “You Are So Beautiful,” “Delta Lady,” “Cry Me A River,” “The Letter” with Leon Russell, and a duet with Jennifer Warnes “Up Where We Belong,” from the movie An Officer and a Gentleman. His releases have received Grammy Awards, Golden Globes, and Academy Awards. In 2007 he was handed the “Order of the British Empire (OBE).” In short: he’s a legend.

Joe Cocker released his Sony Music debut album entitled “Hard Knocks“ in November 2011. The album, produced by Matt Serletic (Matchbox Twenty, Rob Thomas, Collective Soul, Carlos Santana) includes nine brand new songs plus Cocker’s version of the Dixie Chicks song “I Hope” produced by Nashville legend Tony Brown.

For over thirty years, Huey Lewis and the News have been making and performing music that resonates with people at their core. Whether it is their singing about the daily grind in “Workin’ For A Livin’” or lamenting a troubled relationship in “If This Is It”, this is a band that connects with people on a gut level.

In addition to commiserating over life’s rough spots, they have also given their millions of worldwide fans a soundtrack for the celebration of life’s great moments. The driving rhythm of “Heart of Rock & Roll” sings the praises of the great music being made across the US, while “Stuck With You” offers a love song with a tongue-in-cheek turn of phrase and amazing harmonies. Meanwhile “The Power of Love”, which the band wrote for the hit film Back To The Future, not only went to #1 on the Billboard singles chart, but also was nominated for an Academy Award.

Huey Lewis & The News have a love of music that comes through in everything they do. Be it their albums, their live performances, or the way they interact with their fans, they are a band with heart and soul. Their playing is tight, effortlessly moving from an up front, power rock song to a smooth, laid back, soulful ballad.

She is the recipient of 2 Grammy Awards, 4 American Music Awards, 3 MTV Video Music Awards, 2 Academy of Country Music Awards, 1 Country Music Association Award and 12 Billboard Music Awards. Clarkson’s most recent effort Stronger debuted at #2 on both the Billboard Top 200 and Digital Albums Chart. The album is certified Gold by the R.I.A.A. and produced the smash singles, “Mr. Know It All” and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” which marks Kelly’s 9th and 10th Top 10 hit. “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” was #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart for two consecutive weeks (3 weeks total) marking her 3rd #1 on the Hot 100 chart after 2002’s “A Moment Like This” and 2009’s “My Life Would Suck Without You.” Kelly is currently touring the US, mentoring for Team Blake on NBC’s The Voice and will star in ABC’s new reality competition, Duets this summer. Kelly’s third single from the album will be “Dark Side”.
The Fray is Isaac Slade (pianist/vocalist), Joe King (guitarist/vocalist), Dave Welsh (guitarist), and Ben Wysocki (drummer). The Denver-based foursome formed in 2002 after high school friends Slade and King bumped into each other at a local guitar shop. The band achieved national success with their first single, “Over My Head (Cable Car),” which became a top ten hit in the U.S., and the release of their second single, “How to Save a Life,” brought them worldwide fame. The Grammy-nominated band continues to receive critical acclaim for their third full-length album Scars & Stories, out now on Epic Records. Scars & Stories has garnered attention from USA Today who calls the album “more muscular and more buoyant,” while still maintaining a “searching earnestness that will delight the faithful.” People Magazine continues that the new album is a “solid effort that is easy on the ears.” To celebrate the release, which debuted #4 on Billboard Top 200, the band performed on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” Today Show,” “Rachael Ray Show, “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” and the PBS Premiere “Live from the Artists Den.”

Suzanne Vega Preview

Suzanne Vega Preview

Suzanne Vega is set to play Bethel Woods on May 13th, but we caught up with her tour last Friday at Rockland Community College thanks to Arts Rock! Here’s our short review of her show.

Suzanne is famous for her “Tom’s Diner” and “Luka” songs that made her name main stream in the 90′s. Suzanne is a lot more than those songs though. Last Friday she played new songs, old songs, songs she wrote for broadway, and entertained the full house at RCC with stories.

The entire show carried a ‘coffee shop’ vibe, with only her and her guitarist on stage. The feel of the show made it easier to connect with her as she played. If you love that style of show you are in luck because she’ll be playing the intimate Event Gallery at Bethel Woods.

Her tour included several stops across the northeast. She’s also promoting a new album “Close Up”  that was released on February 2nd and is available on Amazon.com. Bethel Woods is her last stop before her tour heads off to play Europe.
If you are looking for relaxing evening full of soothing songs in a coffee shop atmosphere – then we fully sugest going to see her at Bethel Woods on May 13th. 7:30pm Show Time 6:30pm Doors $49.75 advance; $54.75 day of show -
