LibertyForPets.com: Save Local Dogs From Certain Death

Town of Liberty Constable, Joanne Gerow has started a website to help save our local stray and unidentified dogs. The website: LibertyForPets.com features pictures of dogs currently in custody that need a home.

Dog Control Officers are required under New York State law to house stray and unidentified dogs for a mandatory holding period of 5 days. After this time frame, the dogs are taken to a secondary facility for further evaluation and potential adoption, giving them a second chance. When shelters designate themselves as no/low kill, hard to adopt dogs already in the facility are given priority over other highly adoptable dogs waiting at municipal facilities. These hard to adopt dogs can sit in shelters for months, even years! With no resources and little time to spare, DCO’s are forced to face the possibility of euthanasia of perfectly healthy, adoptable and wonderful dogs
due to lack of space.

Joanne is looking to expand her efforts county wide, “the situation is critical with nowhere to take county dogs, not just Liberty’s”. Please take a look around the site LibertyForPets.com, send it to friends, post it to facebook – whatever you can do will help! These dogs are in need of good, loving home.
