A Brazilian Adventure Sambas into Bethel Woods – Minas to Perform Free Show

A celebration of Brazilian culture through music, participatory song, and samba percussion will burst onto the Event Gallery stage at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts as a part of their fall World Stage Series. On Sunday, October 23rd at 2:00 p.m. Minas: Brazilian Adventure will perform their award-winning music for the Catskills.

This event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration, especially for groups, is strongly encouraged. For special assistance in registering your group, please contact Jodi Kane at jkane@bethelwoodscenter.org or at 845.295.2521. Those that arrive early can make a day of it by making a traditional Carnival mask that you can wear during the concert; a great activity for families, scout troops, or community groups. Art activities begin at 12:30 p.m.

The World Stage Series explores and pays tribute to different cultures and traditions through music, dance and other cultural and performing arts in order to promote an appreciation and respect for all cultures.

Other World Stage Series performances include:

- Brother Joscephus & the Love Revival Revolution Orchestra on Sunday, November 13th at 2:00 p.m., which is a lively musical celebration combining New Orleans rhythms with soul, roots, rock and more. Come early and participate in a New Orleans-themed art activity.

- Delaware Valley Opera present the children’s opera Hansel and Gretel on Saturday, December 10th at 2:00 p.m. This holiday classic is a perfect family event and will include audience participation and a Q&A. Come early and help decorate the set by creating cardboard gingerbread men for the witch’s house.

Minas, comprised of Denver-native Patricia King and Brazilian-native Orlando Haddad, was formed in 1978 at North Carolina School of the Arts to bring Brazilian music to stateside audiences. Today, the duo is one of the most sought after Brazilian bands in the United States. Haddad and King’s multiple talents as vocalists, instrumentalists and composers with an impressive grasp of the whole range of Brazilian musical idioms has earned them performances through the northeast, including at the Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center.

Owning its own sound and taking Brazilian music into different compositional realms, Minas creates a sound that is imaginative, evocative and intimate. Between the vocals of Orlando and Patricia, founded on piano and acoustic guitar, augmented by expert ensemble players, one experiences a musical landscape of subtle and complex beauty.
