Roof Collapse on Main Street Gas Station in Liberty

Early Saturday afternoon part of the roof being built on a gas station in Liberty collapsed. The owner of the property, Tariq Gujar was airlifted to Westchester with non-life threatening injuries. Franco Suquilanda was trapped under the debris for over an hour, he sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

The exact cause of the collapse is still under investigation, but the area was experiencing high wind gusts up to 45 mph. All permits for this project were in order.

Liberty PD was first on the scene and extracted one man before emergency services arrived. Monticello, Mechanicstown, and Goshen Fire Departments assisted Liberty in the rescue effort. A crane from Liberty Iron Works was used to lift the fallen debris.
