Letter: Goodman Camp Responds to Opponents False Statements
Submitted by: Committee to Re-elect Jodi Goodman
The “veracity” of the Sullivan County Legislative candidate for District 6, Cora Edwards is once again being called into question. Blatant false representations of facts seem to be the thread of this opponent’s campaign against Legislator Jodi Goodman.
First was the questioned claim by Edwards stating that she “secured” a broadband wireless grant for the County? It was later revealed by the Deputy Sheriff’s PBA that Edwards taught one of her students grant writing and that student was contracted to write a broadband grant.
Second; Edwards made innuendos regarding ethics violations of Jodi Goodman. The ethics in question were dismissed by the Sullivan County District Attorney, Sullivan County Attorney and State Ethics Board as NO violations of ethics or laws.
Third and most recent is the claimed endorsement of Edwards by the Liberty Faculty Association. The Liberty Teachers Union representative found it necessary to send to its members a clarification stating that Edwards did not have the Union’s endorsement.
The Goodman Campaign finds it necessary to swiftly react to the many false statements that the opponent continues to bring forth. “In her mailing, Cora Edwards talks a lot about ethics, but apparently telling the truth about grants and endorsements does not come under that definition”, said Lauree Novogrosky, a spokesman. “Cora does not seem to understand the issues and has begun to create them. Jodi Goodman has a solid reputation as District 6 Legislator” states Novogrosky and the false and misleading statements of her opponent are unfounded and false.
As always the Liberty Independent policy is to post all (with very few exceptions) letters submitted. Letters are the views of the writer and in no way, shape, or form do they reflect the views of the Liberty Independent.
Cora Edwards Receives Endorsement From Labor Federation In Legislative Race
The Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation has joined the ranks of other organizations that have endorsed Cora Edwards for Sullivan County Legislature District 6 including the Liberty and Fallsburg Democratic Committees, Sullivan County Democratic Committee and the Working Families Party.
Helping working families to achieve a better quality of life is the mission of the Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation and the Central Labor Councils. The Federation carefully monitors elected officials and candidates on key issues such as the rights of workers to organize, project labor agreements, living wages, quality education, occupational safety and health legislation and other issues that impact the lives of working men and women.
Edwards, elated over the key endorsement, said she is running for legislator because she “believes in having a county government that takes careful stewardship of taxpayers’ hard-earned money.â€
Speaking on the need to change the Sullivan County legislature, Edwards said, “There is a lot we can do to bring good jobs and increased economic development to our towns in these difficult times. Voters have a clear choice in November.â€
Edwards is certain her professional background will be a major asset to the new legislature. She works as a grants manager and a part-time Adjunct Lecturer at NYU teaching grant-writing for non-profit organizations.
She has helped organizations in Sullivan County successfully obtain grants including a NYSERDA grant for solar lighting for Sullivan Renaissance; from USDA and Department of Commerce for a broadband planning grant for rural areas townships in Sullivan County; a USDA grant in capacity-building for leadership teams, and a workforce development grant from Bank of America for summer interns in Sullivan Renaissance.
